This year's holiday was, basically, all about Emile's entertainment. As such, our first stop was a family park in Belgium where we mostly just swam! 
...or hung out by the poolside 
sometimes eating sosijntjes (i.e. raisins in Emile-speak), sporting a handsome tattoo on one's chest (courtesy of la vache qui rit, i.e. laughing cow cheese), to make sure we fit in with the rest of the crowd ;) 
the big pirate ship with indoor beach was also fun for splashing about 
and then on the rare occasions when the rain stopped and the sun broke through... 
we went for walks. Preferably wearing little red boots. And no pants. 
Zelf lopen! (i.e. walk myself!)
The beach was where the cool kids hung out, checking out the local hotties.

And no, he didn't turn 40 (almost though!). 
The cake was personally delivered by tante Elizabeth, Annick and her friend Pauline.They also helped us eat it. 
Those Belgies certainly know how to make a cake!
Opa and Alex also came to visit us the next day for more birthday and holiday revelry. But they're so full of action, we couldn't catch a picture of them sitting still.
We decided to take her home with us. She didn't mind.

But thanks to the French sun, frequent cool baths and papa's caring application of potions, it passed quickly and without too much discomfort.We also went to visit the bergerie nationale, France's national petting zoo (or actually, a zoological institute set up by Louis XVI as an experimental farm). It houses all kinds of full-bred agricultural animals. Some of them we like, and some of them are downright scary. So much for Emile's heritage on those midwestern farms...
Cow: MOOOOO. Mama: shall we go see the cows? Emile: NEEEEE! (Followed by many loud screams and a hasty retreat)
All in all, we just looove holiday!

Lucky Emile to get chickenpox on vacation with the nice sun and baths to help him get better. We are jealous...
