2008 finale

The end of December brings us a short family vacation in a small cottage on the Dutch Veluwe. So lots of fun and games in the playground next to our house...
The sun shone every day, but it was coooooold!!!
Highs of -2C (about 26F). Papa and Emile freezing their tushes off on the metal slide!

And, of course, holiday with Emile means...swimming!!!
first dips for Céline!

And when he wasn't swimming, Emile was riding his bike!
Because that's what people do on the Veluwe.

Bro and sis warming up on the fire truck. Vrrrroemmmm!
And an exciting day to the wonderful Burgers Zoo.
Yes, that's a giraffe behind mama's head. They were inside hiding from the cold (just like us).
And you knew giraffes were big, but actually, they are biiiiiig! Never seen 'em from so close. In zoo or in nature!

There was also a really super 'ocean' section. With lots of different aquariums. If any of you viewers are ever near Arnhem, this zoo is worth a visit. Unlike anything you've ever been too. Huge and diverse areas for all the animals. It was really great.

Even so, sometimes the animals liked to wander around freely. Don't worry. They're well fed. ;)

And speaking of well fed...
On 1st Xmas day, chocolate mousse cake for dessert. See that huge chunk missing? That was Emile's portion (or 3 portions, actually). Seriously!

Our happy Xmas baby.
Then on 2nd Xmas day Opa came to visit! Gezellig boekje lezen, met kerststukje!

And more reading, with papa, under cozy blankets...
We laughed, we cried ~ but all in all, we had a great time.

Then back home. And, more fun times: Carla-Oma came to play. Armed with gifts as always, and here with a soft, chubby little baby.
Above and below: beautiful brown eyes
What you lookin' at?

Although holidays are the greatest, there's no place like home...

Looking forward to many more wonderful moments in 2009 with family and friends around the world. So here's to a happy new year to all of you!

WONDERFUL! Thanks.
It is impossible to look at those pictures without smiling and/or laughing right out loud! What fun we're all having there.
What a happy family.
Glad to see that Céline likes being in the water too. Keep it up, Girl.
Lots of love and happy New Year wishes from Oma, OpaJon and OmaLaLa

No. The lions aren't stuffed. "The only trouble they had was getting the meercats to stand still, they kept fidgeting" (Mark).

Now. Look at the proportions of the animals. And figure it out...

That lion-picture is hilarious and they both look so cute in it! Yes, giraffes are really big. Even baby giraffes. Did you know the gestation of a giraffe is 15 months? We'll have to see if we can make time for that zoo next time.
Looks like Céline really likes the water too. Great! Thanks for all the pictures and stories about your nice Xmas.
